1 Chronicles 12:19-14:17; Psalm 9:13-20; Proverbs 19:4-5; 1 Chronicles 12:23-37

Where Kings seemed to highlight the downfall of Israel, Chronicles seems to be highlighting how God strengthened his people according to promise, here through listing the thousands of men who joined God’s anointed, David. ‘Now that’s nice; accentuate the positive I always say,’ we might think. But, the truth is we need both sides of the story – the crushing defeat of and the fulfilled promises to Israel. We need to take both sides of this story to heart in our own lives as well. On our own we are running headlong into sin, judgment and exile, but God’s promises (made concrete and clear in Christ) preserve us from our own self-destruction and restore us as his chosen – praise God today!
